Awesome Software

This is software I like a lot but haven't had the time to write about in a separate post.

  1. Things. To-do list apps are like dentures; there's never going to be one that fits everyone. But this one is pretty close to perfect.1

  2. Rectangle. Window managers, on the other hand, are interchangeable commodity goods. You only need one that lets you (1) move to left half, (2) move to right half, and (3) full screen.2

  3. Neovim. I strongly recommend a console text editor over GUI. Life is better when you don't have to mouse-click a bunch of things.3 Go for emacs if you also want an operating system to go with your editor.

  4. Wezterm. As with text editors, terminal emulators are also better when you don't have to click around the settings. Wezterm can be completely configured with Lua. Wezterm panes play well with Neovim. And I like tabs. Wish I could drag them around though.

  5. Goodnotes. Note-taking apps are also pretty interchangeable. But this one has a nice highlighter that doesn't dim the text it is sitting on.

  1. Specifically, it doesn't open modals or do some kind of animation every time you hover over something.

  2. Tiling managers that automatically move and resize your panes get annoying fast. Don't say I didn't warn you...

  3. Warning: you might spend hours customizing your configuration. I'm probably still messing around with mine.
